Within the scope of the SSP 900 Social Responsibility Project Course, a project activity in the form of a talk titled “Family and Media” was held on 24.11.2025 at the Prof. Dr. Bekir Topaloğlu Amphitheater of the Teoman Duralı Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
As part of the SSP 900 Social Responsibility Project Course, under the supervision of Dr. Selin Marangoz, a social responsibility project event organized by our department’s third-year students featured a talk titled “Family and Media.” The speakers were Dr. Semih Çakır, Director of the BEUN Karaelmas Cyber Security Application and Research Center; Doğan Gönüllü, President of ERMED; and our third-year student, journalist Sabriye Aşır. The discussion addressed the transition from traditional media to digital media, the concept of New Media, how digitalization affects individuals and family communication, and the impact of social media on culture and empathy.
In addition, audience attitudes toward manipulative news, disinformation, and clickbait content; the transformation of individuals into passive consumers; and methods that can be used to develop media literacy and a critical perspective were also discussed. This talk, held within the framework of the Social Responsibility Project activity and drawing significant interest from students and academics, was also covered by the local press.
